Welcome to SONDH research! The growing research capacity of UHM and the commitment to research in the School strategic plan guided the effort to foster faculty and student research. Recognizing a need to stimulate and develop a cadre of researchers who will contribute to the advancement of nursing science in the areas of research on Asian and Pacific Islanders, the School strives to promote standards for the conduct of research, support academic research activities for faculty and students, advance collaborative research activities, and create a repository of scholarship and research activities.
The School generates capacity for faculty research through recruitment, mentoring, pre- and post- award support, and partnerships. The Office of Research was created in 2000 to provide support to faculty. With the growth of extramural activity, in 2006, its scope was expanded to include both research and extramural programs (OREP). In 2007, the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) was approved and Jillian Inouye, RN, PhD was appointed to the position. Dr. Inouye is responsible for the implementation of the research mission of the School and cultivates and facilitates research activity with internal and external partners.
