Accreditation

NURSING PROGRAM ACCREDITATION

There are two national accrediting bodies for nursing educational programs, The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

The School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) is the only nursing program in the State of Hawaii accredited by both national accrediting agencies.  Accreditation reviews were conducted in 2001 that resulted in continued accreditation by NLNAC through 2008 and accreditation with no recommendations by CCNE for a term of 10 years through 2010.

The school has been accredited by the NLNAC since 1956 for the baccalaureate program and since 1967 for the graduate program.  CCNE is a newer entity that began accrediting operations in 1998 after being conceived by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM ACCREDITATION

Dental hygiene education accreditation, initiated in the 1940s, is conducted by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, which operates under the auspices of the American Dental Association.  The dental hygiene program has been accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation since 1966.  In 2002, the Commission granted accreditation approval without reporting requirements through 2008.
