Admission Information - BS in Nursing

BSN Program Requirements
  1. Acceptance to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. (Submit a UH system application form and transcripts to the Admissions and Records Office four to six weeks prior to the March 1 or October 1 deadline.)
  2. Submission of the Department of Nursing BSN Application within the appropriate application period (January 1 - March 1 for Fall applicants, August 1 - October 1 for Spring applicants)
  3. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 is required in order to be considered for admission to the nursing program.
  4. A minimum grade of C in the following: Chem 151 and 152; Eng 100; Micro 130 and 140L; Phyl 141/141L and Phyl 142/142L; Pharm 203 (for those applying for Spring admission); and six credits of Social Sciences or Global and Multicultural Perspectives.
  5. Completion of lower division general education and nursing prerequisite requirements.
  6. Completion of one of the following entrance examinations as follows: 
  • NET: (Nursing Entrance Test) 50%ile in both composite reading & composite math scores.  The NET examination is offered by the University of Hawaii Manoa, Department of Nursing CLICK HERE
  • NLN: (National League for Nursing Preadmission Exam) 50 or better in all categories in the percentile norms "all" column.  The NLN examination is no longer offered by the University of Hawaii Manoa, Department of Nursing.  For testing information please contact Kapiolani Community College's Nursing Department at (808) 734-9305. 
  • SAT: 510 verbal and math (resident), 560 verbal and math (nonresident);
  • GRE: 400 verbal, analytical, and quantitative.
  • TOEFL: 550 for foreign students who must take the TOEFL (a score of 550 may be substituted for the verbal score of the NLN Preadmission Examination, SAT, or GRE examinations).

Because the nursing program is highly competitive, simply meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Oftentimes students must exceed the minimum GPA in order to be competitive enough to be admitted.
