Clinical Area of Focus: critical care, trauma, emergency and hemodialysis


Dr. Chris Lima is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Prior to joining the University her nursing career was spent primarily in the acute hospital practice setting. Dr. Lima’s clinical background is in critical care, emergency services and trauma. She also has an extensive background in administration and program development, including quality and database management, patient safety, disease and outcomes management, benchmarking and accreditation. Some of her past roles include Director of Quality and Patient Safety and Director of Critical Care, Emergency Services and Trauma at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu Hawaii and Assistant Director of Trauma at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California.


Dr. Lima’s areas of interests include the political discourse of patient safety and how a new cultural milieu can be developed and sustained in pursuit of minimizing medical error and improving nurse retention and satisfaction. To that end, she is committed to looking at how academia and practice come together to create a workforce that is well-prepared scholastically and technically.


She received her doctoral degree in political science, public policy from the University of Hawaii, Manoa, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii, Manoa, a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Washington, Seattle, and a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from California State University, Sacramento, California.
