Bio: 

Dr. Magnussen has more than 20 years of academic administration experience within the University of Hawaii System. She serves as Chairperson of the UH Statewide Nursing Consortium.She has been a faculty member at the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene for more than fourteen years and served as the Department of Nursing Chair and Office of Student Services Director. Previously, Dr. Magnussen was the Director of the Nursing Programs at Kapiolani Community College and Kauai Community College.

Dr. Magnussen continues to maintain her expertise in instruction, scholarship and research. She was the principal investigator of Ike Ao Pono – Nursing Careers for Hawaiian and Samoan Students, a project funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, to provide Native Hawaiian and Samoan students with enhanced access to quality nursing education at the baccalaureate level. Dr. Magnussen has received a total of $899,565 in extramural funding over the past ten years. She conducts research in the area of intimate partner violence. She has graduate faculty status and serves as the advisor/chair for several doctoral nursing students.

In 2007, she received the Kupono Award from Sigma Theta Tau, Gamm Psu Chapter. In 2008, she was labeled as a winner for Outstanding Poster Award from the Western Institute for Nursing. In 2009, she was awarded Nurse Educator of the Year from the Pacific Institute of Nursing, and the Manoa Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
