Dr. Kagihara’s research focuses on Hawaii’s significant early childhood caries problem and the ramifications of high child dental caries rates on families and the communities in which they live. Another research area is the roles of highly active antiretroviral therapy and periodontal disease in increasing cardiovascular risk for HIV-infected persons. She holds a concurrent appointment as an associate professor of clinical dentistry with the USC School of Dentistry and was director of the USCSD Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program prior to returning to Honolulu in 2005.
Dr. Kagihara serves on the Hawaii Dental Association Education Committee and on the Kahala Senior Living Community Board of Directors. She is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists and is a member of the American Dental Education Association and the Special Care Dentistry Association.
