Clinical Area of Focus: adult health

My scholarly interests have focused on pulmonary disease and rehabilitation as well as nursing research and analysis.  I am a pulmonary nurse researcher and have seen firsthand the devastating toll lung disease takes on people’s lives. I am interested in studying the effect of different breathing techniques for people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

I joined the SONDH faculty in 2005, and have pursued my interests in symptom management with a pilot grant from the Center for Health Disparities that focuses on acupressure and dyspnea. Additionally, I am co-PI on a smoking cessation grant for native Hawaiians that was submitted summer, 2006.

I serve as both a reviewer and an editor for The Journal of Rehabilitation Research & Development. I received an American Lung Association Clinical Research Grant in 2000 as well as the Veterans Health Administration’s Advanced Career Development Award in 2002.

Teaching Topics: Concept analysis and research methodology.
