Navy Brings Aloha to Cambodia

University of Hawaii at Manoa nurses and engineers are part of the Pacific Partnership team that is finishing up a summer-long journey to Southeast Asia, visiting Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, where they will complete their mission this week.  Pacific Partnership - "Preparing in Calm to Respond in Crisis" - is an annual Pacific Fleet humanitarian and civic assistance mission to build stronger relationships and disaster response capabilities in the Asia Pacific region.

Pacific Partnership brings together eight partner nations, 12 non-government organizations, and the capabilities of the hospital ship USNS Mercy in Cambodia.  It is the largest annual humanitarian and civic assistance mission in the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring that the international community is better prepared to work together as a coordinated force when disaster, such as an earthquake or tsunami, strikes.

Navy Region Hawaii, working with University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and hospital ship USNS Mercy, is organizing interviews with UH nurses in Cambodia and/or here in Hawaii 7-10 August.  The participants can talk about their experiences in Southeast Asia (including Vietnam).  We can provide video or photo resources.  Please email us (be sure to include Sonja.lohmeyer@mercy.navy.mil, too) if we can help arrange an interview!
