Frequently asked questions concerning the application process

    • "I've missed the application deadline...now what?"
You have the option of filing a UH Common Application to become an unclassified graduate student and take selected graduate courses with permission within the time limits.
    • "What kind of options are available to me as an unclassified graduate student?"
You may, (with permission of the faculty) take non-clinical courses in the graduate nursing curriculum.
    • "What restrictions are there about the number of credits I may take?"
First, you need to realize that taking credits as an unclassified student does not guarantee admission to the Master's program. If you are admitted to the program you may petition to transfer in up to 12 credits of unclassified course work.
    • "How do I become an unclassified graduate student?"
Request a UH Common Application form available from the Office of Admissions & Records (808-956-8975). The deadlines for filing are usually around May 1 for Fall semester admission, and November 1 for Spring semester admission. These deadlines are sometimes extended so verify the date when requesting the application. You will need to provide transcripts of your undergraduate degree to have unclassified graduate status. Once you have been accepted as an unclassified student, if you take courses each semester, you do not need to reapply for admission each semester.
    • "How do I enroll in the nursing courses?"
You can request a schedule of nursing courses for the upcoming semester from the Office of Student Services and select a course that is appropriate (call the Office of Student Services if you need some advising in this matter.) Sometime before the registration period for unclassified students, call the Office of Student Services (956-8939) to request a registration approval code.
    • "Is the GRE required?"
      The GRE is NOT required.
    • "Is the GMAT required for the MS/MBA Program ?"
Yes the GMAT is required. Please check with the College of Business Administration regarding this and their application which is required for admission to the graduate MS/MBA program.
