Announcement: Admission to Graduate Programs 
Applications are now being accepted for Fall 2008 admission to our graduate programs.

We offer an MS degree in the following specialty areas: Nursing Administration, Nursing Administration with an MBA, Community and Public Health Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner, Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education, Adult Psych/Mental Health, Child-Adolescent Psych/Mental, Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist, Master's Entry Program in Nursing.

We also offer an on-line PhD program.

MS Application Deadline:
The deadline to submit a completed application for the MS program is May 1. We strongly recommend that you submit all materials by April 1 to allow time for the Graduate Admissions office to review and evaluate your transcripts.

PhD Application Deadline:
The deadline to submit a completed application for the PhD program is February 1. We strongly recommend that you submit all materials by January 1 to allow time for the Graduate Admissions office to review and evaluate your transcripts.   

The Application process requires you to submit documentation to two office on campus.

You need to submit the following documents to the Graduate Division:
1. Their application
2. Their application fee
3. All official transcripts

AND you need to also submit the following documents to the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene, Office of Student Services, Webster Hall, room 201:
1. Department of Nursing Application
2. Two reference letters or forms (for the phD program submit instead a list of three references)
3. Copy of your HI state Nursing license (for the PhD program submit a copy of your current Nursing license, it does not have to be a Hawaii State license) 
4. Current Resume
5. Writing sample (for the PhD program it is a scholarly paper)

After all of the application materials listed above have been received, you will be contacted for the interview. Please do not contact us for the interviews. Only students with completed applications will be contacted for the interview .

In Fall 2007 we began the new Masters Degree of Nursing in Public/Community Health

The MS in Community and Public Health Nursing is a 36 credit program is designed to prepare nurses to assume leadership roles in the various venues of public and community health.  Graduates will be competent to serve as agency or project managers, researchers, consultants, or providers of care in the public or community health settings. Each student will be able to choose their own specific focus area within public or community health (for example: community based maternal child services, disaster preparedness, correctional health, school health, occupational health, ambulatory care, etc.).  The initial offering of this program will be in person, evening classes at the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus in Honolulu. Future plans are in development to migrate the program to a distance based format.

For the coming year the Fall and Spring courses are already designed to be delivered via WebCT (on-line). Although some of the courses may also have an “in-class” component they can be delivered to our neighbor islands. Nursing Administration/MBA program also began in Fall 2007

Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) for non-nurses who have a Baccalaureate degree (or higher) in another field.  Next class scheduled for Fall 2009.  Click here for more information.

RN to Master of Science Program (with Non-Nursing Baccalaureate)

The RN with baccalaureate degree program is offered for registered nurses (RN) who are graduates of an Associate Degree or Diploma program and have a baccalaureate degree in an area other than nursing.

The admission requirements are the same as those for the MS program, however, a student must also take (or have successfully already completed) the following courses:

Nurs 441 (research), Nurse 439 (management), Nurs 471/L (Community Health) and FSHN 475 (Nutrition).  

 

For Prospective Undergraduate Nursing Students

Informational sessions will discuss the admissions process, academic requirements, and nursing curriculum followed by a question and answer period following the presentation. It is highly recommended that all prospective undergraduate nursing students attend one of the following sessions and allows you to make an appointment with the Nursing Advisor for a personal advising session. In that session, the advisor will evaluate the courses you have completed and help you set the best plan for application.
