Karen Tessier Receives The Champion Award

UH Mānoa nursing faculty member, Karen Tessier, will be receiving The Champion Award on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Washington Place.   The Champion Award honors those who have devoted themselves, above the call of duty, to prevent injuries to children and make their lives better.  Karen will be receiving the award for the work that she has done with child passenger safety. To learn more about Karen's research and activities in the area of child passenger safety, click here. 

Previous winners of this award include: Senator Suzanne Chun Oakland, Captain Charles Hirata of the Maui Police Department, and Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women and Children.  All of these people have acted as champions on behalf of the children of Hawaii. 

This award is given by the Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition, which is the Hawaii state chapter of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury.  There are 450 coalitions in 15 countries.
